Biography

The son of a sea captain, Friedrich was a civilian flying instructor in 1913. In August 1914, he was called up and became a naval aviator, flying seaplanes on missions over the North Sea and Britain. After the war he flew for Dornier, and flew the largest seaplane at the time, a Dornier Do.X on its maiden Atlantic flight to New York on 1930. During World War Two he was the officer commanding occupied Holland, until the end of the war. Christiansen died in 1972 at the age of 93.
