Hollinghurst joined the RFC
in 1916. After spending time as an instructor,
he managed to get flying in Sopwith Dolphins
in April 1918. By the end of the war he had
11 victories and the DFC. Remaining in the
RAF, he was an Air Vice Marshall during World
War Two and was knighted in 1948. He retired
from the RAF as Air Chief Marshall Sir Leslie
Norman Hollinghurst, GCBKCB, OBE, and DFC.
He died on 8 June 1971. |
