This displays a typical Royal Flying
Corps Officer's sleeping quarters
somewhere in France around 1917. Note
the silk scarf worn by most flight
crews to prevent chaffing of the neck.
This was because most airmen were
constantly twisting and turning their
necks in looking out for enemy aircraft.
The scarf was also handy for wiping
the oil from their goggles.
